Repair or replace a commercial door?
Most door problems are repairs. Here is how to tell when replacement is the better use of money.
Request service- Free to use: the repair company pays us, not you
- Independent local companies that work on commercial doors and docks
- You get the quote directly from the company doing the work
Usually a repair
- A single broken spring, cable or roller.
- One or two damaged sections or slats on an otherwise sound door.
- An operator fault on a door that moves freely by hand.
- Worn seals.
Consider replacing when
- The same door has needed several repairs in the past year.
- Parts are discontinued or have long lead times.
- Several sections are damaged or the door is badly rusted.
- The door no longer meets your needs, such as insulation, speed, security or wind rating.
- The repair quote is more than about half the cost of a new door.
Questions to ask the repair company
- What caused the failure, and will the repair address the cause?
- How many more years should this door reasonably last?
- What would a replacement cost, and how long is the lead time?
- Is there a warranty on the parts and the labor?
